Tax profiles
Named sets of tax lines, such as GST and QST, that an invoice applies to its taxable lines.
A tax profile is a name plus one or more tax lines, each with its own rate. Applying a profile to an invoice adds those lines to the totals, calculated on every line item marked Taxable.
Create one
Go to Workspace Settings → Invoicing and scroll to Tax Profiles. Click Create Profile.
Give it a Profile Name (for example Quebec Taxes).
Under Tax Lines, Add Tax Line for each tax: a name (GST, QST) and a Rate %. Each line prints separately on the invoice.
A rate of 0% is allowed, for clients you bill without tax but still need to show a named line for, such as Zero-rated or Exempt. If you want no tax line at all, leave the invoice's tax profile as None instead.
Save. The profile is Active and available on invoices and clients.
Using profiles
- On a client. Set Default Tax Profile on the client sheet and every new invoice for that client starts with it.
- On an invoice. The Tax Profile field in the header. Choose None for a tax-free invoice. An invoice keeps its own copy of the tax lines and rates as saved, so changing a profile later does not rewrite old invoices.
- Per line. Untick Taxable on a line item to exclude it from every tax line.
Deactivating
Deactivate hides a profile from new invoices and clients without touching the invoices that used it. Activate brings it back. Profiles are never deleted.
Accounting
When QuickBooks or Xero is connected, map each profile to the matching tax code or tax rate on the integration page so synced invoices are taxed the same way. See QuickBooks and Xero.
