Sign in with Microsoft
Sign in with a Microsoft work, school or personal account, approve Quanta for your organization, and require everyone in the workspace to sign in with Microsoft.
Anyone can sign in to Quanta with their Microsoft account, the one they use for Outlook, Teams and Microsoft 365. Admins can also require it, so that your organization's Microsoft accounts decide who can get into the workspace.
Signing in with Microsoft
On the sign-in page choose Sign in with Microsoft, pick your account and you're in. The sign-up page has Sign up with Microsoft, and an invitation has Sign up with Microsoft next to the Google button. In the desktop app it's Continue with Microsoft (it needs the latest version of the app).
The first time you sign in with Microsoft, Quanta finds your account by your email address. That only works when:
- the email on your Quanta account is the same as your Microsoft account's email, or, if your Microsoft account has no mailbox, the address you sign in to Microsoft with, and
- Microsoft confirms the address belongs to you. For a work or school account that means your organization has verified its email domain with Microsoft, which almost every organization using Microsoft 365 has. Personal Microsoft accounts always qualify.
After that first time, Quanta recognizes your Microsoft account directly, even if its email changes later.
Quanta also remembers, in that browser, that you use Microsoft. Next time you open the sign-in page it shows Signing you in with Microsoft… and carries on by itself; if you're already signed in to Microsoft 365 you're straight in, with no password and no clicks. Choose Use another way to sign in differently. It doesn't carry on by itself right after you sign out.
Once your organization has approved Quanta, it can also appear in Microsoft's app launcher (My Apps). Clicking it signs you in the same way.
Approving Quanta for your organization
Depending on your organization's Microsoft settings, the first person to sign in may see that Quanta needs an administrator's approval. Your Microsoft 365 administrator can approve it for everyone by choosing Sign in with Microsoft once with their admin account and ticking Consent on behalf of your organization before accepting. Quanta only asks to see your name and email address.
Requiring Microsoft sign-in
Administration → Workspace Settings → Sign-in → Microsoft sign-in has Require Microsoft sign-in. When it's on:
- Everyone in the workspace, admins included, signs in with Microsoft. Email and password and Google sign-in stop working for this workspace.
- Anyone already signed in another way is signed out within 30 minutes, on the web and in the desktop app.
- When someone's Microsoft account is turned off, they can no longer get in.
- People who also belong to other workspaces can still sign in to those with a password or Google.
To turn it on you must yourself be signed in with Microsoft; otherwise the switch stays off and says so. Sign out, choose Sign in with Microsoft, then come back to the tab. Quanta asks you to confirm before it takes effect. Turning it off takes effect straight away, however you signed in.
Before turning it on, make sure everyone's Quanta email matches their Microsoft account, so nobody is locked out.
